Downtown Marina Issues and Opportunities
The Downtown Marina serves as a vital access point for maritime recreation and provides public access to the waterfront. The City's boat slips are in high demand, and could easily be expanded. At the same time, models of boat ownership are changing; in the future there may be more joint ownership of vessels, making boating more accessible to broader range of people.
Oil operations on Grissom Island are also scheduled to close in the near-term, creating new possibilities for future use.
The current marina break water may be inundated by sea level rise in clear conditions by 2075 if nothing is changed, a condition that is exacerbated with higher sea levels during storms and in future years.
